Invasive ptarmigan sampling

First bird in the bag. Photo: F. Bergan

Fieldwork is going as planned.  So far I have 16 featerhersamples and 28 shitsamples. Today I shot the first Ptarmigan which could make a nice dinner.  However this one will be subject to a taxidermist´  “kitchen”.  In snowy weather up by the Lyngmark mountain, the still-lying bird was not easy to spot, but a black bar from eye to bill seen through binoculars came out fatal for the young male “Mountainéer”.

A recently abandoned Ptarmigan snow refuge with droppings was the only other finding on today´s trip, beside fresh tracks from a polar fox.
