We sailed out again to our usual spot between Fortunabay and Laksebugt and found a group of bowhead whales. Despite the rather strong wind blowing from the south we were able to make some recordings and heard in addition to the usual song of this season a totally new one! All the whales we have approach so far have been calm and reacted only very slightly to the biopsy arrows but today Camilla and Aningaaq encountered one which hit its fluke as a clear sign of distress. We had to end the day sooner than planned because the wind was pushing ice to the harbour and we could risk being trapped out at sea. Luckily it didn’t happen and we could fight our way through the ice back home.
